Coffee Shop: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

Of the many coffee shop in Indonesia, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has become one of the favorite places to chill out. To be honest, at first I was not so keen to try the coffee here because I had already fallen in love with the franchise coffee shop next door. But then, it was on my halal food list, so i'm kinda forced to try. HAHA kidding.

This time I took a visit to Coffee Bean Pejaten Village which is located at the ground floor near the back entrance. The place is not too convenient to do some works since it is located at the center of the mall where many people passing by. But it's still a comfy place to stay with free WiFi and electric socket. In fact, my friend and I did our work there, we're pretty much comfortable and didn't really care of our surroundings. 

 

Coffee Bean menu offers a wide variety of coffee and tea. In addition, they also offer some light meals such as cakes, muffins, and cookies. I would say the price is a bit high, for example, a cup of ice blended coffee price at IDR 50k. But wait! I'll tell you this. You can actually save up to 50% with Mega credit card or Mega debit card. Get 30% disc for any purchase at IDR 70k or above and 50% disc at IDR 250k or above. This discount is applied for all food & beverages except the drinking bottles (mineral water, and some juice).

My first visit was with my mom, I ordered cappucino (IDR 34k) and long john gyu teriyaki (IDR 59k) for a single perfect brunch. In the end I only paid for 70k after 30% discount with Mega debit card payment. I was quite satisfied with the food and service. So I was curious to come again and try other menu. The second visit was with a friend, I ordered ice blended mocha latte (IDR 49k) and teriyaki tori burger (IDR 59k). While my friend went with ice blended caramel machiato (IDR 46k) with additional whip cream (IDR 7k) and chicken open sandwich (IDR 60k). We also had warm chocolate muffin (IDR 35k) for our dessert. That was a bunch of meals for only IDR 70k/person after 50% discount. yum!

Hot Cappucino

A mixture of coffee and milk that mixed perfectly. The bitterness of the coffee mixed with sweetness milk make cappucino tastes so special.

Long John Gyu Teriyaki & Teriyaki Tori Burger

Basically they are made of the same ingredients, bread with fresh vegetables, meat, teriyaki sauce, and mayonnaise. The difference is, long john filled with beef teriyaki, while tori burger with chicken teriyaki.

Ice Blended Mocha Latte & Caramel Machiato

I like the ice blended at this cafe, the bitterness was perfect, coupled with lot of milk, especially when it served with whip cream. Caramel machiato was sweeter than mocha latte. You decide your own coffee style.

Chicken Open Sandwich
This menu contains of vegetables salad, fried egg 'sunny-side up', wheat bread, and scrambled chicken. Not quite a memorable dish, too dry.

Warm Chocolate Muffin

A chocolate muffin filled with melted chocolate and topped with powdered sugar to enhance flavor. Let it melt in your mouth!

Bakery: Auntie Anne's Pretzel Perfect

A fresh, warm Auntie Anne's pretzel. Well I love it much. A chewy yet tender golden brown pretzel will have you savoring every last bite. It's a perfect tea/coffee companion for afternoon break. It's even perfect for breakfast. It's always been my all time favorite snack.

Auntie Anne's Pretzel originated from New York, America. But you don't need to go that far to taste pretzel with authentic flavor. There are already some Auntie Anne's outlets in Jakarta such as Gandaria City, Pondok Indah Mall 1 (PIM 1), Taman Anggrek Mall, Kota Kasablanka, Grand Indonesia, Lotte Shopping Avenue, Central Park, and Puri Indah Mall. This review is a visit to Auntie Anne's PIM 1. Auntie Anne's stores are usually operated in small retail spaces, a typical in-line store without any seating. Unlike the other stores, Auntie Anne's PIM 1 provides seating because it is located in the food court area.

Auntie Anne's not only offers you classic original pretzel (IDR 12k) but also other flavors such as sour cream & onion, garlic, sesame seeds, chezzy melts, chocs eclairs, cinnamon sugar, etc (IDR 17-19k), and Pretzel dog (IDR 28-36k). My favorites are original, chocs eclairs, and almond with caramel dip. Yep. they offers various dipping too price at IDR 7,5k; caramel, chocolate, cheddar cheese, and cream cheese. As for the beverage, they have lemonade and soft drinks.

Auntie Anne's pretzel is so delicious especially when it is served fresh from the oven.  It will get a bit hard if you left it for a few hours. So if you plan to take it home, then I recommend to heat it in the oven before you eat. Pretzel is one of my comfort food. The price is affordable and totally perfect to boost your mood. It is also a quick place to grab some snacks on the go. It never took you so long to get these perfect pretzels. Some pretzels are ready and displayed on the food warmer case to keep them warm and fresh.

[Kuningan City] Humming Bird Eatery

Last week my elder brother took me to Hummingbird Eatery. This eatery is located in the mid-bustle-town of Jakarta, Kuningan City. Hummingbird has a unique interiors concept, the birdcage-themed, with the dominance of wood color. The name of Hummingbird fit perfectly with its interiors. As I walked into the dining, I could see a number of giant bird cages, bird painting on the walls, and trees at the corner. This interiors create an atmosphere that you were eating at your home garden. 

Let's talk about food. Hummingbird eatery does not only think about a good concept of its interiors, but also its food. Hummingbird serves a wide range of menu, that is, sandwiches, soup salad, Asian and Western course, pasta, sweet and savory crepes, waffles, pancakes, and of course a selection of drinks.

We went there around 3 pm, which was perfect for afternoon tea/coffee time. So I ordered Allen's Sweet Crepes (IDR 39.5k) and Minty Mint tea (IDR 23k). While my brother, who apparently hungry all the time, went with Western main course -Rosemary Infused Roasted Chicken (IDR 69.5k), and Lychee Cucumber (IDR 40k).

Rosemary Infused Roasted Chicken is roasted chicken with fried potato, green salad and mushroom sauce. The infused word here means, seasoning is injected to raw meat. The purpose of this is to get flavor deep into the meat when its cooked. If you look at the picture, it looks a bit messy. No worries, it tastes good. Allen's Sweet Crepes is crepes with cream cheese, raisins, raspberry syrup, and vanilla ice cream. The crepes are soft yet crunchy. Crepes would be best choice at this time. Minty Mint is mint flavored tea from TEAriffic menu. Well, I personally like original tea more than flavor tea. I just wanted to try something else every time I visited a restaurant. And, Lychee Cucumber from Nojito and Granita menu, is actually a non-alcoholic version of Mojito Granita. So this is basically fruit drinks.

[Ciputra Mall] Nanny's Pavillon Laundry Room

Nanny's Pavillon creates a different interior concept of each branch. Its branch in Ciputra Mall has a laundry room theme. There are indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor decoration is very sweet and has a vintage nuance. In accordance with the theme, one wall is decorated by the hanged baby girl's clothing. On the other wall, you can see a vintage clock, a pile of clothes in the basket, and a series of hanger. These are the tone that portray the warmth atmosphere of a home.

I was not sure what to order back then. So the nanny recommend me Jack's Spanish Paella (IDR 68k) which is Nanny's Pavillon favorite menu. This baked yellow rice has a bit of everything such as prawn, chicken, and some of Spain's ingredients. This tasty paella is regarded as Spanish cuisine. The taste in my opinion is like our traditional yellow rice. The paella itself has wonderfully flavorsome, and the mushroom sauce give extra rich flavor to it.

When I came yesterday, it was Halloween. I didn't notice that until the nanny show me another menu -Spookytacular menu, special for Halloween. Nanny's Pavillon offer two kind of Halloween special pancakes: scary face pancake (IDR 42k), choco spider waffle (IDR 39k), and two special drinks: wicked twist (IDR 29k), vampire sangria (IDR 29k). However, this special menu only offered by Nanny's Pavillon on Sept 26 - Oct 31 2014. 

Aren't you curious of scary face pancake. Because I am. So I ordered one. It's actually two pancakes being stacked together, and filled with banana, chocolate jam, and almond. It is then covered with vanilla cream. As a final touch, it's sprinkled with smoothed-oreo around the cake. This becomes special because the pancakes are decorated to resemble a scary cartoon character of the night before christmas. I didn't order choco spider waffle because I was too full. The pancake is way too big for dessert. Anyway, I still enjoyed taking some pictures of scary face pancake.

There are two special drinks as I've mentioned earlier, wicked twist and vampire sangria. Wicked twist is made of lemon. While vampire sangria is a mocktail made of black tea, and combined with mixed-berry (strawberry and raspberry). This is a perfect drink after meals. Fresh!

Chocolate, has been said to be every woman's best food. Looking for high quality chocolate? Pipiltin Cocoa is the right place. Pipiltin Cocoa has the concept of bean to bar making process. As a guest, we can see behind the glass room the making process scene of cocoa beans that turn into chocolate bar. What I love the most is that they use the finest local cocoa beans from our own country, Indonesia. They gathered cocoa beans from Aceh, Bali, and Banyuwangi. Proudly present, Indonesia can produce high quality chocolate too.

A 3-storey building located at Jalan Barito. The first floor is the kitchen of bean to bar process. Pipiltin Cocoa has the slogan "we make chocolate from scratch". So we can see the process right at the spot. The second and third floor are for the guests who want to order and dine in. The place itself is relaxing. 

Pipiltin Cocoa signature desserts are: Tabanan Farm and Egg No. Well, I chose to try other dessert at that day. It's called Branch, with chocolate almond leaf, pistachio, pink sponge cakes, and green apple. Branch contains 80% of dark chocolate. It tastes bitter sweet in good way. It was excellent.

 Chocolate with salted caramel. Not too sweet. It's taste good even after you had your pasta and chocolate dessert. 

Besides chocolate desserts, PIP also offers savory menu such as pizza, pasta and rice. The one I tried is fettuccini carbonara with beef bacon.

PANCIOUS. It's pancake and it's delicious. I guess that is where the name came from. As the name of this restaurant, the house specialty here is pancake. They offers sweet and savory pancakes and several other food menu such as salad, steak, burger, sandwich, pasta, risotto, and gnocchi. The place is located within the mall's restaurant row at 3rd floor, near cinema XXI. The interior is dominated by red color with a modern minimalist concept. Yet, the pendant lighting decoration creates warm and classic impression. It is worth to try, as it comes out with reasonably priced food menu.

When I was in Taiwan, I used to craving for Mille crepes. So when I found this on their menu, I ordered this right away: Strawberry crepes cake (IDR 43k) . The Mille crepes topped with vanila ice cream, strawberries, and strawberry sauce. Mille crepes literally means thousand layers of crepe. It is made of many thin crepe layers with cream in each layer.

Green tea pancake (IDR 40k). So delicate and gentle with green tea sauce and biscuit crumbles.

Fresh fruit cocktail (IDR 58k). Mango juice filled with pieces of fruit. It is served in a glass bottle for 2-3 person.

Chicken tortilla wraps (IDR 58k). A rich combination of sliced chicken, smoked beef, and chicken sausage all in one wrap.

Mushroom risotto (IDR 75k). Spore spread by wind and love to a creamy risotto of mushroom and grilled chicken breast on top.
